There are a lot of differences when it comes to women’s sneakers. There are basketball sneakers, golf sneakers, running sneakers, cross-trainers and even, sneakers for weight training.
If you are a member of a gym and don’t do a lot of running or cycling, one pair of sneakers will often be just fine. But as we get older, the shoes we wear becomes more important. When you are walking laps around the track or dancing to a Zumba workout, you need shoes that give you the correct support for the activity you are doing.
Walking Sneakers
Walking sneakers offer support whether you are walking long distances or even walking on uneven terrain. Make sure they have enough cushioning and lateral support. Many come with removable foot beds so you can add your own custom orthotics if necessary.
Running Shoes or Trainers
Many people wear running shoes because they want something light and cushiony. Runners use them to train and there main purpose is as a “shock absorber” for high impact activities, such as running or jogging. They do not provide lateral support so you need to be careful when using them for working out at the gym as this could put you at risk for injuries. Running shoes should only be used for running or jogging.
Cross Trainers
Cross trainers provide lateral support for anyone who is performing low impact aerobics or strength training. However, these shoes shouldn’t be used for long walks or running because they don’t provide enough cushioning to absorb the impact of your foot hitting the ground. This could lead to injuries and joint pain in your legs, hips and ankles.
Hiking Sneakers
This is the most versatile athletic shoe on the market. They have rugged soles for the uneven and often, rocky terrain. Shock absorbency is provided with the extra cushioning on the insole. Ankle support is superb because of the higher cut of the shoe.
It’s important to find the right shoes for the activities you are performing. Many people don’t give it a second thought. They buy a pair of sneakers that feel good on them and then use them for every activity. If you want to prevent injuries and prevent joint pain, it’s important to buy the right shoes. If you are a regular hiker or runner, get shoes that protect your feet and body. If you hike one day out of the year, this may not be such a big deal. Just remember that there is no one sneaker for every type of exercise or activity.
